Item Sink: where items go

What an item sink is

Monsters drop items all the time. If nothing removed them, everyone's bag would fill up, the auction house would be flooded with the same gear and everything would lose value. An item sink is any place where an item leaves the game for good — spent, destroyed or turned into something else. In Vaelenor almost every sink gives you something useful back.

Salvage (Blacksmith › Workshop › Salvage)

Gear from your bag (not equipped and not listed) becomes material:

  • 2× the common material of the zone matching the piece's level;
  • a chance of 1 ore from the piece's band — Iron Ore below level 35, Arcane Crystal from 35 to 69, Legendary Fragment from 70 on — of 25% + 10% per refine level (guaranteed from +8).

You can salvage up to 50 pieces at once, with shortcuts to select duplicates, pieces for another class or everything up to a rarity. The shortcuts never select refined pieces.

Auto-recycle

In the same place, Auto-recycle salvages hunting gear before it reaches your bag. You pick the rarities (only common, advanced and rare — unique, elite and legendary never), the attributes you want to keep and whether the first copy of each piece stays. It applies to monster loot and to items found while exploring; dungeon chests, quests, towers and mail skip the filter.

Discard

From the bag you can discard any item (or part of a stack). It disappears with nothing in return — salvage gear instead.

Refining, polishing and migration

  • Refining spends gold and ore on every attempt, success or failure: 1 Iron Ore always and, from +3 on, the ore of the piece's band too. From +6 on a failure drops 1 level, unless you use a Protection Seal (which is spent).
  • Polishing (piece at +10) spends the band's ore and, at high levels, Nightmare Fragments.
  • Migrating the refine to a new piece spends Migration Scrolls (1 per 3 levels) and the old piece goes back to +0.

Crafting (recipes)

Every recipe spends the ingredients and the gold right away. If the success chance is below 100% and the craft fails, both are lost and no item comes out.

Consumables

Potions, tonics, bandages, rations and scrolls disappear when used.

Support spirits

  • Creating a spirit spends 10 essence fragments of its type and 500 gold.
  • Feeding spends fragments (each one is worth 20 bond).
  • Converting trades fragments of one type for another, 1 for 1, paying gold.

Essence fragments are bound: they cannot go to the auction house.

Auction house

Selling at the auction house does not destroy the item — it only changes owner. What leaves the game is the sale fee (5%, or 2.5% for VIP): in gold, in diamonds or, for listings priced in refining material, in ore. The Vaelenor Merchant sometimes buys player listings and takes those items out of circulation.

Mail

Items that don't fit in your bag go to the mail. Attachments not claimed within 7 days are lost. Check your mail now and then.

Tips

  • Turn on Auto-recycle for common and advanced early: your bag will thank you and the material becomes ore through recipes.
  • Before salvaging, check whether the piece is worth migrating the refine or giving to another character on your account (through the Account Chest).
  • Refined pieces give more ore when salvaged: a +8 piece always returns its band's ore.
